Soaking up Culture

This is educational Baylie, now appreciate that 600 year old plate!

Today we went to Castello Sforzesco. Shawn procalaimed it the most impressive castle we have seen so far. It was full of museums - 14 separate museums. We did our best, but all that sightseeing is pretty exhausting. The Museum of Ancient Art was very good (it was also first, so it had the advantage of our energetic attention). It ended with Michelangelo's final work. An unfinished statue he was working on in his 90's. I was impressed. The Picture Gallery was also impressive, but just how is all that heavy, dark religious artwork full of anguish, pain, torture, death, and fear supposed to make you feel? Uplifted? At peace? Full of hope? I was definitely ready to move on to the Museum of Musical Instruments!209

I'm not sure which picture is the most outstanding: the Michelangelo, Baylie with the priceless instruments, or Shawn's Roman nose! xoxo

So cool! I just showed Michelangelo's Pieta and Sistine Chapel to my world history classes, can't wait to show them this:) And, yes all of those middle ages paintings were meant to scare the Christians into obedience:-O
